Thelma Chimbganda, CEO of Beyond Borders Logistics has been honoured as the Business of the Year winner at the 2024 Women Changing the World Awards. These awards, presented by Dr Tererai Trent, a renowned figure celebrated by Oprah Winfrey, recognise women making significant contributions in various fields, including sustainability, humanitarian work, leadership, advocacy, tech, product development, education, health, and innovation. The awards aim to highlight and inspire women who are driving positive change globally. Thelma is one of the few women in the logistics sector in Zimbabwe, a male-dominated industry, and the presence of Beyond Borders is nothing short of transformational.
Currently in Accra, Ghana, pursuing her studies, Thelma expressed her excitement about winning gold in her category, saying, “Winning this award feels surreal and incredibly validating. It’s a testament to the resolve and determination of my team at Beyond Borders Logistics and the impact we are making in the logistics and e-commerce industry. This award acknowledges our efforts to drive intra-Africa trade and e-commerce practices in economies that struggle with infrastructure, internet connectivity, and inadequate policies that support e-commerce.” Her pursuit of making the African continent a logistics and e-commerce powerhouse resonates with progressive young start-ups on the continent looking to contribute to the economy through serious entrepreneurship.
In her awards presentation speech, Dr Trent emphasised the transformative power of women, stating, “These exceptional women are here to awaken hearts, give permission to recapture dreams and inspire the women of the world to come together to forge a brighter path for all. The rising of women is the awakening of everybody.” Inspired by her fellow nominees, Chimbganda remarked on the resilience, innovation, and commitment she witnessed at the event. She felt honoured to be among such trailblazers and visionaries.
