Maureen Mandipaza has long been recognised as a beacon of change and support in the communities she serves, both in the United Kingdom and Zimbabwe. As a philanthropist and the founder of Dravens, an incredibly successful healthcare business registered in the UK, Maureen has demonstrated relentless dedication to societal improvement through both her business initiatives and charitable activities.
Dravens has evolved significantly, enabling numerous individuals to launch and expand their own businesses through Maureen’s help. This growth is a direct result of her commitment to reinvesting in the community that initially offered her the opportunity to succeed. Her efforts have empowered many to create sustainable businesses, enhancing their economic stability and contributing to the health care sector and the community.
In addition to her achievements in the UK, Maureen has made significant strides in Zimbabwe. She established an academy in Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe, dedicated to teaching women essential life skills such as cooking, baking, marketing, and nail care, along with other fundamental trades. This initiative is designed to equip women with the skills necessary to become self-sufficient and support their families, fostering independence and resilience. In April, Momentors academy proudly celebrated its first group of graduates, marking a significant milestone in its journey.
Maureen’s innovative approach focuses on imparting knowledge rather than just providing temporary aid, such as food hampers. She believes in nurturing the strengths of these women, building their confidence, and enhancing their competence, which in turn prepares them to excel in their chosen careers.
In recognition of her substantial contributions to community development and empowerment, Maureen has been honored by Power of Love Ministry and International Christian University with an honorary doctorate. This prestigious accolade celebrates her impact and dedication to fostering positive change.
Dr Mandipaza was conferred with Honorary Doctorate in New York, USA by the Power of Love Ministry and International Christian University. In her acceptance speech for the Award of Honorary Doctorate in Entrepreneurship and Community Leadership and Development she made a powerful tribute to her late grandmother, Anna. She begins by saying, “I am deeply honoured to accept the Award of Honorary Doctorate in Entrepreneurship and Community Leadership and Development. This recognition is dedicated to my late grandmother, Anna, who faced unimaginable challenges when, at the age of 13, she became pregnant and gave birth to my mother. Her story, though filled with hardship, has been a constant source of strength and inspiration in my life.”
Dr. Mandipaza highlights how her grandmother’s legacy has fuelled her commitment to the mission of the Momentors Academy Vocational Skills Training Centre, stating, “It is this legacy that fuels my commitment to the mission of Momentors Academy Vocational Skills Training Centre. Our goal is simple yet powerful: to provide young women with the skills they need to empower themselves and break the cycle of poverty, creating a sustainable future for generations to come.”
She underscores the importance of self-sufficiency, remarking, “No matter what obstacles you’ve faced or where you come from, what truly matters is your capacity to sustain yourself and your family.” Dr. Mandipaza then outlines the core objectives of the Momentors Academy, saying, “Through our efforts, we aim to: Enable young women to create income streams, reducing poverty in our communities. Offer alternatives to drug misuse and alcohol abuse. Prevent young women from turning to prostitution or early childhood marriages for survival. Encourage women to enter the entrepreneurship space, contributing to economic development.”
She calls on everyone to reflect on what is important and to work together for change, stating, “As we move forward, I challenge everyone to reflect on what truly matters to you. Let’s work together to bring about the change our communities so desperately need. The world is in dire need of solutions, and it’s up to us to fight against injustice and poverty to create a better future.”
Dr. Mandipaza concludes her heartfelt speech with a message of faith and hope, saying, “Thank you for this incredible honour. Let’s continue with faith and conviction, knowing that when the time is right, the Lord will make it happen.”
Her speech is a powerful reminder of the impact of resilience and the importance of empowering others to overcome challenges and create a brighter future.
