Marshall Munetsi’s first-half equaliser helped Wolverhampton Wanderers secure a vital point in a 1-1 draw against Everton at Molineux, moving them six points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
Wolves capitalised on Ipswich’s late defeat at Crystal Palace to widen the gap from the bottom three. Munetsi’s first goal for the club came at a crucial moment, earning Vitor Pereira’s side an important result in their fight for survival.
Everton had taken the lead in the 33rd minute through Jack Harrison’s first goal since February 2024. Emmanuel Agbadou’s misdirected clearance gifted possession to Jesper Lindstrom, who set up Harrison to fire past José Sá with the aid of a deflection off Matt Doherty.
Wolves responded swiftly, levelling the score just seven minutes later. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, lively throughout the match, cut inside from the wing and played a precise pass to Munetsi. Jarrad Branthwaite failed to intercept, allowing Munetsi to calmly finish and open his account for the club.
Both teams were without key attacking players, with Matheus Cunha sidelined for Wolves and Iliman Ndiaye missing for Everton. The lack of attacking fluency was evident in the second half, with clear chances at a premium.
Goalkeepers Jordan Pickford and José Sá were not overly tested, but both produced crucial saves. Pickford denied Jorgen Strand Larsen with a quick reaction stop, while Sá kept out Beto’s effort in Everton’s best chance of the half.
Wolves nearly snatched the lead early in the second period when Pablo Sarabia’s free-kick curled narrowly wide of the post, momentarily fooling parts of the Molineux crowd into thinking it had gone in.
Despite Everton extending their unbeaten run to eight matches under David Moyes, Wolves will take confidence from the result as they edge closer to securing their Premier League status.
