Cityscapes are the heart and soul of any urban area, defining its character and telling stories through the architecture that graces its skyline. These structures serve as meeting points, sparking discussions, and offering insight into the economic pulse of the entire nation. The construction sector, where skylines transform, is often touted as the financial epicentre, and indeed, money seems to favour the heights.
Harare, the capital city, is long overdue for a transformation. While details about the city’s development master plan for the next 10-20 years remain uncertain, there are signs of progress. Sky-high aspirations are evident, with talks of skyscrapers dotting the horizon, prompting optimism from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and the hope of attracting eager investors.
A noteworthy development on the horizon is the announcement by LEVA Hospitality to collaborate with Troika Design Workshop (TDW) in constructing hotels in Zimbabwe. This private initiative signifies a proactive step towards the city’s future. LEVA, a UAE-based hospitality brand, is set to manage a 120-unit residential complex, LEVA Hotel Residences, and a four-star LEVA hotel boasting 180 rooms in the Mount Pleasant suburb. This ambitious venture, in collaboration with TDW and Turnbury Property Developers, is poised to redefine the hospitality landscape in Harare.
J.S. Anand, Founder and CEO of LEVA Hotels and Resorts, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion into Zimbabwe, citing the country’s vast potential for the hospitality industry. The partnership with TDW and Turnbury is not just a business move but a commitment to sustainable development and support for local businesses—a strategic alignment that bodes well for the success of these greenfield projects.
Troika Design Workshop, under the leadership of Phillip Kudzayi, the company’s Director, brings a unique and innovative approach to design. Renowned for their expertise in Architecture, Quantity Surveying, and Engineering, the firm’s involvement ensures the realisation of outstanding structures. With Troika at the helm, this partnership promises not only buildings but an experience, marking a significant stride in Harare’s architectural landscape.
The Zimbabwean construction sector is currently a hotbed of investment opportunities. The diaspora community is channelling substantial investments into the residential construction sector, while tourism is flourishing with projects like LEVA’s hotels, Terrace Africa’s shopping malls, and WestProp’s residential and commercial builds. These ventures collectively signal a growing economy, particularly in construction and tourism. The call to invest in Zimbabwe’s construction sector has never been clearer.
