Agilitee Africa has entered the Malawi market in partnership with Innobuild Motors. Dr. Mandhla Lamba, the CEO and Co-Founder of Agilitee Africa, shared on LinkedIn, “We spent almost 3 years preparing and cultivating the Malawian market for electric vehicles. I am pleased to announce that finally, we have entered the Malawian market. We signed an exclusive partnership on Friday the 19th of January 2024, and through this partnership, our vehicles will hit the road in Malawi within 60 days. Congratulations to our partners Innobuild.” The post went viral on LinkedIn, with most Malawians appreciating this strategic move.
The Operations Director of Innobuild Motors, Mr. Jonathan Billy Chowotha, added, “Innobuild Motors is delighted to announce the signing of a groundbreaking agreement with Agilitee Africa to enter the Electric Vehicles (EV) space. Today, we have signed a landmark partnership that will completely transform the transport sector in Malawi”.
Speaking to Elevation News, the Head of Partnerships at Agilitee Africa, Mr Fredrick Muteti, said “Today’s announcement is a significant development for Agilitee as we change and simplify the way we travel to better serve Africa and drive growth in a way that protects the environment and sustains the longevity of mother earth. As leaders of EV in Africa, we are always looking for opportunities to expand our reach so that our innovations can change more lives daily,”
The partnership between Agilitee and Innobuild heralds the establishment of Agilitee Private Limited MW. Through this collaboration, Agilitee is looking to make a significant investment towards the construction of a manufacturing and assembly plant for Agilitee EVs in Malawi.
Agilitee’s ambitious plan includes the rollout of 50,000 electric scooters across Africa by the end of 2024, with Malawi being a key participant in this initiative. The local assembly of these electric scooters signifies a substantial boost to job creation within Malawi, making it a significant contributor to the Malawian economy.
The first batch of vehicles destined for Malawi will arrive semi-assembled, providing locals with job opportunities as they complete the assembly in the country. This strategic move lays the foundation for Malawi’s business to evolve into full-scale assembly, with plans for a dedicated assembly plant in the coming years.
This strategic move will position Agilitee as a significant contributor to the Malawian economy and position the country at the forefront of electric vehicle manufacturing in Africa.
Tailored to suit the country’s terrain, Agilitee will introduce new models in Malawi. This includes the Agilitee LoadMo, Agilitee Loadfast, and Agilitee Loadbug, with the earlier models, such as the Agilitee LoadeX, Agilitee RTF, and the Agilitee Wild Grace, not featuring in the lineup of Agilitee vehicles on Malawian roads.
These three prominent models are ragged and robust, they boast excellent road clearance, a 300-400kg load capacity, and a maximum range of 200km on a fully charged battery. The swappable batteries, with a 60-second maximum swap time, enhance efficiency. Agilitee’s entry into the Malawian market marks a transformative and commendable step, particularly amid global discussions on climate change.
The commitment to reducing carbon footprint through EV adoption aligns with the company’s vision. Being a transformative force in the EV space, Agilitee currently operates in South Africa and Kenya, with plans to enter the Nigerian market.
This expansion across African countries aligns well with the AfCFTA agenda, promoting a self-sufficient continent. Agilitee aims to contribute to a greener Malawi, showcasing environmental responsibility, and takes pride in being part of the effort to save the planet.
“Malawi is on the move, the introduction of EVs will alleviate pollution issues and contribute to the economy, empowering our people through various incentives offered by Agilitee Malawi,” stated Mr. Tendai Nheta, Agilitee MW, Business Development Director.
Emphasising that EVs represent the future, Agilitee takes a leading role in this transformative movement.
