Renowned Zimbabwean artist Garry Mapanzure tragically lost his life in a fatal accident on the Beitbridge-Masvingo Highway at approximately 2 pm CAT on the 12th of October. Reports indicate that the accident occurred while he was in Masvingo, and despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries at Masvingo Hospital this morning.
This unfortunate incident adds to a series of recent accidents that have claimed the lives of several young individuals. Only a few days ago, there was another devastating loss with the passing of young boys from St. George’s College in similar circumstances.
Garry was an emerging star in the Zimbabwean music scene, recognized for his exceptional musical talents and international appeal. His recent signing with a UK record label had projected him towards a promising future. Fans resonated with his distinctive melodies, particularly in his popular song “Wapunza,” which featured his younger brother Victor Mapanzure.
Eyewitnesses reported that Mapanzure was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his sister, which collided with another vehicle as it turned into the Clipsham Views residential area in Masvingo. Sadly, the collision claimed the lives of two other individuals. Mapanzure’s nephew, his sister’s son, also lost his life in the crash, along with Langton Madima, the President of the Great Zimbabwe University Students Representative Council, who passed away at the scene.
As the nation mourns the loss of this musical genius, our heartfelt condolences go out to the Mapanzure family during this difficult time, as well as to the families who have lost their loved ones on Zimbabwean roads.
