Liverpool’s rising star Trey Nyoni celebrated his 18th birthday by signing a new contract with the club, marking the latest milestone in his remarkable rise through the ranks. The midfielder, who joined from Leicester City in September 2023, has already made history at Anfield, becoming the fourth-youngest debutant in Liverpool’s storied history.
Nyoni, born to Zimbabwean parents, has rapidly developed at Liverpool and has featured across Liverpool’s senior, U21s, U19s, and U18s teams last season, earning six first-team appearances to date. His breakthrough moment came in February 2024 when, aged just 16 years and 243 days, he made his senior debut in an Emirates FA Cup victory over Southampton.
The England U20 international has continued to impress under new manager Arne Slot, making five senior appearances in the 2024-25 season. Among these was a record-breaking Champions League cameo against PSV Eindhoven, where Nyoni became Liverpool’s youngest-ever European competitor at 17 years and 213 days.
“It means a lot, obviously supporting the club from young as well,” Nyoni said after signing his new deal at the AXA Training Centre. “It’s a great feeling. But now I have to go out and show why I’ve earned this contract.”
The teenager maintains a grounded perspective on his rapid rise: “I think it’s just step by step, day by day, becoming better every day. I’m still young, there’s a lot of improvement. That’s the most important thing. I just have to repay them in that way.”
Nyoni’s new contract represents both a reward for his early promise and a vote of confidence in his potential to become a mainstay of Liverpool’s midfield for years to come. His record-breaking trajectory suggests the Anfield faithful may be witnessing the emergence of their next homegrown star.
